Linear Accelerator

SUNY Upstate University Cancer Center

The Dwyer team was enlisted to design the fit out of an existing, unfinished

vault with a new, state-of-the-art Varian True Beam Linear Accelerator.

Much of the vault required additional shielding to accommodate the

increased radiation levels emitted by the new machine. The Dwyer team

collaborated closely with the structural engineer, MEP consultants, Varian,

and Nelco, the specialty shielding product manufacturer on this

complex and compact project.

While much of the new space was to have the same aesthetic to the adjacent vaults and control areas, the team took every opportunity to improve the functionality of the space, increate storage and better workflow.
