Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center

URMC

University of Rochester Medical Center Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry brought Dwyer Architectural on to design a walk-in Pediatric Behavioral Health Crisis Center at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The program includes several office and patient intake interview rooms, a sensory room to de-escalate patients, an anti-ligature toilet room, and a large reception and waiting area. Various forms of wall protection were used, including calming photographic images for office wayfinding, and a large graphic that wraps the corner from the main entrance into the Brighter Days suite directing patients and their families to the clinic.

The design also includes an addition of an exterior canopy and vestibule to the front of the building to create a new main entrance for the entire URMC Mental Health and Wellness facility.  This reactivated the original central entry point that had been converted to an office.

As the first clinic of its kind in the region, this project will have a lasting impact on the community’s most vulnerable patients and their families.
