Emergency Department Surge Tent

University of Rochester Medical Center | Rochester, NY

To help the overcrowded Strong Memorial Emergency Department plan for a possible COVID surge, Dwyer assisted in the preliminary research to determine the validity of purchasing a temporary tent.   Conceptual floor plans assisted the UR in selecting and ordering the appropriate size tent to alleviate pressures in the ED and to better allow for social distancing of patients.   LeChase was brought on board to lead the design and construction of a 3,200 SF Sprung Tent, to expedite delivery and construction of the project in a design build delivery method.

Close coordination with engineering teams helped determine the
optimal location of the tent within the existing Emegency Department parking lot. Considering this location had a significant change in grade, a ramp between the tent and both the Emergency Department and EMS entrances were also constructed.

The tent includes 28 bays, a nurse work area and storage. From the project’s inception to occupancy, the project was completed in 5 months, on time and within budget. This project was successfully completed on time and within budget working with LeChase Construction.

Size: 3,200 sf

Completion Date: October 2020
